Charles Wanless

Police Officer Charles Wanless was the first horse Patrol Officer to die in line of duty. Officer Wanless was shot and killed on September 18, 1890 as he responded to a disturbance at a boarding house at 917 Broadway. (Rocky Mountain News, September 19th, 1890)
